No, we only offer A-levels. We feel that we can take all the best bits included by the IB and offer them in a much more flexible way that really plays to pupils' strengths, rather than forcing them down particular academic routes. Read more about our 16+ curriculum.

All pupils start on at least 4 subjects at the start of the Lower Sixth, although a few do an accelerated maths/further maths course which allows them to study for 5 A-levels. Most pupils will drop a subject after the first term, but you are under no obligation to do so, and in the end around 25% of pupils take four or more A-levels.

Yes, absolutely. All pupils have the opportunity, should they wish, to do this under the guidance of an expert supervisor. However, there is no compulsion to do so.

Each pupil has five hours per week per subject in the classroom with a specialist teacher. Additional lessons are often added in the Upper Sixth as public examinations approach, and we expect pupils to complete around three hours of independent study per subject per week outside of class.

Pupils doing four or five subjects generally have few free periods during the academic timetable, but those doing three will typically have around 5 hours of independent study time per week during the school day.

The average class size across the Sixth Form is between 11 and 12 pupils: small enough to ensure that everyone can be heard and receive individual attention, but large enough to ensure that there is a good level of discussion and debate.

Yes, as we believe it is essential for pupils to nourish their bodies as well as their minds. However, there is a huge range of choices on offer: we believe in sport for everyone, and sport for enjoyment. Some pupils choose to play at a high or even professional level, while others choose more 'low-key' options - like simply going for a jog or going to the gym.

The range of sports from which you can choose includes rugby, netball, football, hockey, tennis, athletics, cross country, squash, rock climbing, rounders, gym training and swimming. Read more about our sports life.

Very successful for both. In a typical year around 15 pupils will go on to become doctors, and they are supported by weekly preparation sessions. Additional sessions include mock multiple mini interviews (MMIs).

We have also seen increasing interest and success in obtaining places at American universities, with pupils regularly receiving offers from many of the country’s top institutions, including the Ivy League.

Every year between 80 and 100 pupils apply to these elite universities, with approximately a quarter of these applicants going on to study at Oxford or Cambridge. Although not for everyone, we strongly support any pupil who has aspirations to attend Oxford or Cambridge, particularly in terms of preparation for both the admissions tests and interview process.
